Product Information

Exercising causes the body to break down muscle tissue as fuel. However during the recovery period muscles can rebuild to a greater extent. This is how exercise can cause an overall accumulation of muscle but the entire process is dependent on the body being provided with the necessary nutrients for muscle growth.

Reload has been formulated to provide key vitamins, minerals and amino acids essential to your body’s performance and recovery along with carbohydrates to replenish and refuel and fast-absorbing protein for muscle tissue to repair and rebuild so you can train longer and harder.

Carbohyrates for Fuel

Dextrose, a carbohydrate, helps in two ways:
* Restores glycogen fuel levels after training. Glycogen is replenished about 3 times faster than normal over a 4 hour window following exercise.
* Creates an insulin spike to help deliver nutrients to the muscles more effectively.

Double-Action Protein for Structure

Whey Protein
Through fast absorbing whey protein with an exceptionally high biological value, amino acids are rapidly delivered straight after training.

Casein Protein
A high quality casein which is shown to have an anti-catabolic effect as it releases protein slowly over up to 7 hours.

Protein:Carb Ratio
Most post-training recovery formulas contain protein and carbohydrates but are typically much higher in inexpensive carbohydrates. Reload contains an exceptional protein:carb ratio of 1:1 as protein is the key ingredient in reducing post-training catabolism and building muscle and to avoid the undesirable effects of unecessary carbohydrates.

Added Amino Acids

L-Glutamine
The most abundant amino acid in muscle tissue and plays crucial role in protein synthesis. Training depletes glutamine levels! so an additional source is vital to promote growth and to prevent muscles from being broken down and metabolised as a source of glutamine.

L-Leucine
In the latter stages of intense exercise, leucine is released from muscle tissue to be used as fuel to maintain exercise performance. This leaves the muscle deficient so it is important to restore leucine. As muscle is broken down as fuel, the body enters a catabolic state. Research shows that leucine acts as a switch from catabolic (the body breaking down) to anabolic (the body building up).!

L-Arginine
Arginine has been shown to have a further insulin-increasing effect when taken with carbohydrates. This speeds the delivery of other nutrients and enhances the recovery process.

Key Post-Training Nutrients

Electrolytes: Potassium, Sodium & Magnesium
During exercise perspiration (sweating) causes us to lose electrolytes. Replenishing these stores is crucial for rehydration, reducing the intensity and frequency of muscle spasms and cramps, aswell as allowing muscles to reach peak performance.

Antioxidants: Vitamin C & Vitamin E
Exercising creates a build up of free radicals, the molecules often associated with cell damage and ageing.! Synergistic vitamins C & vitamin E are antioxidants and are added to help combat free radicals attacking the body post-training.

Digestive Enzymes
A major issue with supplements is that they often aren't absorbed to a satisfactory degree; instead they're excreted without key ingredients being put to use. We have included a digestive enzyme complex to assist efficient digestion and maximise absorption. Contains five enzymes: protease, amylase, lipase, lactase and cellulase.
Whey protein concentrate, dextrose, whey permeate, L-glutamine, L-arginine, calcium caseinate, citric acid, L-leucine, digestive enzymes, flavour (orange or lemon-lime), thickener (guar gum), potassium phosphate, sodium chloride, trisodium citrate, magnesium oxide, colour (riboflavin or curcumim), vitamin C, sweetener (sucralose), DL-alphatocopheryl acetate.
After exercise muscles crave certain nutrients to replace what those just expended. This means that taking key nutrients within 30 minutes of training may give a greater edge in muscular uptake. In fact, research shows that nutrition ingested in this time can significantly improve recovery time.

Elsom Reload is formulated to take advantage of these post-training requirements by providing a 1:1 ratio of protein:carbohydrate for muscle repair and to replenish glycogen stores, along with extra amino acids, vitamins and electrolytes. This high protein ratio may be particularly effective in reducing the catabolic (breaking down) reaction to muscular exertion and stimulate muscle growth.

Shake two heaped scoops of Elsom Reload with 400ml of water and drink directly after training, preferably within 30 minutes.
I normally just take a protein shake after training. Why would I use Reload?
Consuming protein after training is a great idea and highly recommended. However the body requires other substances in the period directly after training, such as carbohydrate and electrolytes (see product description). This is a critical time for the body to rebuild muscle tissue and replenish lost nutrients so other substances in addition to protein may be of great benefit.

When / how do I use Reload?
Click on the "Directions" section above for detailed information.

Can I take Reload if I have a medical condition/am pregnant?
If you suffer from a medical condition or are under medical supervision of any kind, it is recommended that you consult your healthcare practitioner before taking Reload or any sports nutrition product.

Is Reload better than taking regular sources of food?
All of the ingredients found in Reload can be found in regular sources of food and we strongly recommend a balanced diet in conjunction with Elsom products. However, it is often costly and inconvenient to consume enough of each ingredient. Reload is specifically formulated to provide nutrients that are of benefit to your body after training to make this process more convenient and effective.

Can I take Reload before I go to bed?
Reload is recommended within 60 minutes of training and within 30 minutes if possible and this period generally is not when people go to bed. Two of the main times our body goes into a catabolic state are following training and during the night, as we fast for a long period of time. Therefore Reload is highly recommended following a late training session.

Are there any side effects?
There are no documented side effects from taking the ingredients in Reload. However the protein it contains is derived mainly from milk and has a very small amount of lactose (equivalent to less than 100ml of milk). People who have a lactose intolerance may want to avoid this. However, if you can take half a cup of milk without any difficulty, you should have no problem taking Reload.

How long can I take Reload for?
Reload can be taken after every training session as a convenient and effective way to increase key post-training nutrients over an indefinite period of time without any difficulty. Indeed, it is recommended that you take extra Reload on a long term basis to promote recovery, muscle tone and growth over time.

Is this vegetarian?
Yes Reload is vegetarian as we do not use rennet (a non-vegetarian enzyme) in our production. Reload is not vegan as the protein is derived mainly from milk.

How long will this Reload last?
This depends on your training schedule. Reload contains 20 servings and people generally take one serving after every training session. So if you are training 3 times a week a single tub will last almost 7 weeks and if you are training 5 times a week a single tub will last 4 weeks.

How should I store my Reload?
Tightly sealed in a cool, dry place.

Should I take Reload at times other than directly after training?
Reload is specifically formulated to provide materials required in the post-training recovery period. Although many of these ingredients may of benefit at other times, we normally recommend Elsom Core as your generally daily source of muscle-building protein.

What are electrolytes and why do I need them to hydrate instead of just water?
When we perspire (sweat), we don't just lose water, we lose electrolytes also. These electrolytes have many important funtions in the body and one of them is to delicately balance cell hydration. Consuming lots amount of water may upset this balance and cause overhydration.

Why is it important to consume carbohydrates with protein?
Athletes need to consume carbs during recovery to replenish glycogen fuel stores that get depleted during exercise. Protein is helpful because it supplies the building blocks needed for muscle tissue repair and the building of new muscle tissue in response to exercise. Carbohydrates and protein consumed together are better at boosting the rate at which glycogen stores are replenished than carbs alone because this combination is very effective at boosting insulin levels. Insulin is a natural anabolic hormone that helps the body build and recover after exercise. Thus, carbs and protein provide the necessary building blocks to promote recovery and when consumed together they can help speed the recovery process and maintain muscle gains.
